We are delighted to announce the winners of our coloring page contest.  Rebecca Wessel, age 5, colored the PIG LATIN POLKA DANCE and we love the orange pig!  Sierra Martin colored Cathy & Marcy in concert, giving great hues to the guitars, steel drum, mandlon and ukulele!  Each girl wins a $25 gift certificate from our catalogue at Cathy & Marcy’s STORE, to choose the CD’s or DVD’s they want. Congratulations!

KIDS WRITE SONGS

Nalle Elementary School in S.E. Washington, DC

We had 2 wonderful sessions at writing songs with students from D.C. Scores, a branch of America Scores. The students have both soccer training and poetry writing classes. ASCAP hooked us up with the program and since it was voting time, we wrote a song called “VOTE FOR ME”. Check out the program on the web. We’re inspired and look forward to more.

We’ve been yodeling for many years. It started with our love of old cowboy and cowgirl songs and we learned a lot of yodeling from Patsy Montana, a country music star in the 1930’s who was the first woman in country music to sell 1 million records (1935, “I Wanna Be A Cowboy’s Sweetheart”). Since people asked us all the time to teach them how to yodel, Cathy got together with Tod Whittemore and made a 2 tape (now 2 CD) set with a book that teaches the art of yodeling.

So, in 1988, Bette Midler needed a yodeling coach for her part as Rose in the movie Big Business. This is a really funny family movie that also stars Lily Tomlin. Ms. Midler’s management phoned a Los Angeles music store and asked if they could recommend a “Yodeling Coach” to teach her to yodel. The store owner told them, “You don’t really need a yodeling coach, you just need these cassettes by Cathy.” They bought the cassettes and Cathy never got to meet Bette Midler. But her yodels are exactly like the ones on Cathy’s instruction.

You can learn a little yodeling with our song “Grandma Slid Down the Mountain” from the CD of the same title. Marcy twirled a lariat rope in our show “Cathy & Marcy’s Country Music Jamboree” at the John F. Kennedy Center, Washington, DC. and Cathy yodeled. Try it!

And, if you want to hear an amazing 11 year old girl yodel on “America’s Got Talent”, click here! Proof that yodeling is cool! And she announces that she learned from a book and tape, so we wonder if she might have learned from Cathy!
